On Tuesday May 27,ESUJ's popular early summer
event "May Evening Gala" took place in Meiji Kinenkan.
More than 100 people gathered including
ESUJ's guests Professor Thakur of UN University
and
His Excellency Mr. Hannachi, Tunisian
Ambassador. The big attraction of the evening
was cello recital by
Ms Yuko Miyagawa, grand-daughter
of Maestro Hidemaro Konoe, famous
conductor who pioneered
classical music in Japan. She played
J.S. Bach and Mayuzumi Toshiro's piece "Bunraku"
with koto-like
sounds. Catalonian ballad "Bird Songs"
played by Pablo Casals at a United Nations general
assembly was
played last. All attendees
comfortably mixed with everyone
else in such an international gathering.
First-timers lost no time in becoming friends.
