Visit to Japan of Lord Watson,  April  2004

Chairman of ESU London as well as of the Internatioanl Council of the English- Speaking Union,  The Lord Watson of Richimond, CBE visited Japan from April 11-15, on his way to Korea for the  festivities surrounding the launch of the ESU, Republic of Korea, his first visit to Japan in 35 years.
He is a former BBC presenter and  a member of the House  of Lords. On April 13, he gave a special lecture in the North Building Hall of Keio University 's Mita Campus. Lord Watson quoted Napoleon words comparing the geographic size of nations and their wealth, noting they did not coincide, and suggested  it was neccessary to reconsider national interest by taking a fresh look at the whole world, with consideration of language as the communication tool for understanding various countries 's situations. It goes without saying, the audience was completelly charmed by his beautiful BBC voice, speaking the Queen's English. After the talk there was a lively question-and-answer session, followed by a delightfful social hour with Lord Watson in the adjoining faculty club.
