| Visit to Toguri
Museum of art, March, 2006 |
|
On March 11 under a deep blue sky, a total of 30 ESUJ members and their
families visited the
Toguri Museum, in the quiet 'quartier' of Shoto. Mr. Osamu Toguri's words of welcome were
followed by the thoughtful and rigorous explanation of Ms Keiko Kikuchi, curator, and
translated
into English by Chairman Hanabusa, enticing tour members into the world of Imari. Starting
from
early Imari ware of Chinese-influenced old blue-and-white and Shozui types from the
collection's
7000 pieces, the group were able to enjoy to their heart's contrent various tea ceremony
utencils
and sake vessels of old Ko-Kutani ware, once the preserve of Japanese tea ceremony experts
and
later popular with the tradesmen and merchants. |
