| Haiku in English, Part
4, February 2007 |
The fourth meeting of "Haiku in
English" took place on February 16(Tue) at the Japan Nartional
Press Club. Again this time, haiku form was rather free, and thirteen entries
were received.
Having reviewed the anonymously submitted haikus and printed them in no particular
order, Poet
Emiko Miyashita discussed each one critically and commented on technique. A number
of haikus
appear below.
the buds swell
my dearest friend gone
frightening
on the ume tree
bitter winds abating
the gastrocamera might expose
jingle of my change purse
on this fine dawn
last night's yakitori
winter glove-
O'Donoghue's-
moonlit waves....
does lukewarm sap
under a dripping awning
the earth's rhythm
run inside the maples?
raising suds to the
fiddler on the winter beach
crosses on my calender
plum blossoms
out in the cold
