ESUJ presents 'English Club,' a monthly get-together where members and others listen to talks and communicate with each other in English as a common language. Each time we invite a guest speaker who as an expert in a field or another, talks a fascinating story, unique and good-to-know. It is followed by active exchange of views engaging the participants in the floor

Finland, a Northern European nation immersed in the natural beauty of its forests and lakes. It is also a country that pours great effort into developing culture and the arts through its peoples’ boundless love of all music genres, from that of its great composer Sibelius to modern music.
Counsellor of the Finnish Embassy and cellist of international note, Mr. Seppo Kimanen will introduce us to his country’s bounty, including especially the charm of its culture and music.

Profile: Mr. Seppo Kimanen
Counsellor (Press and Culture), Embassy of Finland in Japan, Cellist
Born in Helsinki. Started playing the cello at the age of 10; following graduation from the Sibelius Academy, undertook further study at the renowned Prague Conservatory, Paris Conservatoire, and Detmold Music Academy (Germany). Cellist, teacher, and columnist. Founder and artistic director of the world famous Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival. A famed Finnish cellist, he has released numerous CDs and received many prizes for his music. Counsellor (press and culture) of the Finnish Embassy in Japan since 2007 (will shortly return to Finland).
John West is a Senior Consultant at the Asian Development Bank Institute in Tokyo. Prior to this appointment, he worked for over 20 years at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development in Paris, where he was Head of Public Affairs and Director of the OECD Forum.
