Invitation
to the "Highlights of Japanese Art" Exhibition
The Tokyo National
Museum will hold the "Highlights of Japanese Art" Exhibition
from May 28th until July 7th at its Hyoukei-kan Gallery
particularly for overseas visitors coming to Japan on the
occasion of the 2002 FIFA World Cup Tournament.
This Exhibition
is composed of seven parts, each of which represents seven
different periods in the history of Japanese art:
1. Primordial
and Ancient Art
2. Asuka and the Introduction of Buddhism
3. The Culture of the Nobility
4. Art of the Samurai Class
5. Ink Paintings and Noh Drama
6. The Tea Ceremony in the Momoyama Period
7. Dazzling Art of the Edo Period.
Each epoch is
represented by works of art which are characteristic of
the period. In total, more than 120 items of outstanding
works of art possessed by the Tokyo National Museum are
displayed in this Exhibition.
At the request
of the Tokyo National Museum, the English-Speaking Union
of Japan (ESUJ) translated into English the texts of Panels
and Audio Guide. H.E. Ambassador Seth of India, our Honorary
President, graciously volunteered to narrate the Audio Guide.
This is a good
opportunity for you to see a panoramic view of Japan's art
history. Please tell your non-Japanese friends to go to
the Ueno Park and see this Exhibition to be aided by the
beautifully narrated Audio Guide in English.
