Ambassador's Lecture
Series No. 9
Thailand-Japan Relations:
-Overview
of the Current Situation and Prospects for the Future-
Lecture by
H.E. Mr. Suvidhya SIMASKUL, Ambassador of Thailand to Japan
| This will be the ninth in our very popular
Ambassador's Lecture Series, and it's been quite sometime
since we last featured a neighboring country. It is widely
known that Thailand has long been a friend of Japan, with
relations extending back hundreds of years, including
the exploits of the legendary Nagamasa Yamada in Siam
(as Thailand was then known) in the early 17th Century.
Thailand is one of the oldest countries in Southeast Asia
with a rich historical tradition and much natural beauty,
being a popular destination for tourists. Like Japan,
Thailand was never a victim of colonialism. In the modern
era, the ties between Thailand and Japan have developed
in leaps and bounds, as exemplified by the recently announced
conclusion of FTA negotiations. What shall be the next
dimension in Thailand-Japan Relations? Ambassador SIMASKUL
will provide his insights. It's an opportunity not to
be missed! |
