ESUJ Lecture

Haiku in English Part 2

Lecture by Ms. Emiko Miyashita

Hot on the heels of our hugely successful New Year's Special Lecture on Haiku in English, ESUJ is again welcoming Ms. Emiko Miyashita to take us once more into the simple yet profound world of haiku, this time on the theme of "How to enjoy a haiku party."

Haiku is 'literature by the group', proposing and selecting phrases, expressing interest in and reaction to the choices that are made. Participants are urged to bring along a couple of three-line English haiku poems of their own about how autumn is seen, heard, tasted, or smelled. Examples of possible themes are moonlight, insect sounds, and leaf-viewing while enjoying new sake. First time participants are very welcome. Explore your sensitivity freely, and give haiku writing a try!
