ESUJ May Evening Gala 2006

Mozart East and West

Once again in the lovely season of May, we will hold our always well-received May Evening Gala in the classically beautiful Lounge Kinkei at Meiji Kinenkan. This year marks the 250th anniversary of the birth of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Mozart's music crosses national borders and is today loved around the world. Mozart comes back to life in the passionate, beautiful and elegant koto music of Nobuko combined with oboe and synthesizer.

Nobuko(Koto)
Graduate of Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music with Masters Degree in Japanese Music; recipient of Ataka Award. On the occasion of Mikhail Gorbachev's first visit to Japan, Nobuko led the welcome group of musicians who played at the Geihinkan. She has performed with members of the Vienna and Berlin Phil and has played in over 20 countries, including the first concert in Croatia after the war. Representative of the Japan-China-Korea Koto Trio Ensemble "Koto Princesses". She is also active as an ambassador for peace, under the motto "Music is the common language of the heart. " Her music is highly regarded both in Japan and around the world. President of Koto Academy.

Masaru Nakayama (Oboe)
Degree in Instrumental Music from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. Performed at Beppu Agerich Music and Bayreuth International Youth Festivals; plans to study at the Detmold Music Academy from October this year.

Maya Moeran (Keyboard, Percussion)
Composer, Programmer. Born in England. Uncle is well-known Irish composer E.J. Moeran. Learned piano from age of 10; studied composition at London School of Music. Has visited various countries and undertaken composition and arrangement for ethnic instrument sessions, Paris Collections and Fashion Shows in Europe, and dance music; has also composed music for numerous commercials, including those of Guinness Beer.
