Museum Tour No. 4

"Visit to the Japan Folk Crafts Museum"

Soetsu Yanagi was one of the first proponents of the Mingei movement and collected many beautiful Korean pieces, which are renowned today. This tour will visit the Japan Folk Crafts Museum, which has become an artistic bridge between Japan and Korea. We will see the exhibition, Yanagi Soetsu & Old Tamba Pottery, celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the founding of the museum. We will also visit Yanagi’s nearby home, which will be specially open that day.

Please join us for this tour of the world of Soetsu Yanagi, which will be guided by Kyoko Mimura of the Museum’s international division.

Soetsu Yanagi (1889〜1961)
Japanese philosopher Soetsu Yanagi loved the beauty of Korea and its culture. He introduced Koryo celadon and white porcelain to the world, collecting many items of artistic crafts both inside and outside Japan, which are kept at the Japan Folk Crafts Museum, which he founded.
