ESUJ Lecture in English

Social Systems and Spirit of the Edo Era

Lecture by Mr. Mr Tsunenari Tokugawa

President, Tokugawa Memorial Foundation
18th Head of the Tokugawa Shogunal Household

Long ago when the Thames and Seine Rivers were polluted and smelly, whitebait could still be caught in the estuary of the Sumida River. In that frugal era when everything had to be recycled, residents of Tokyo were able to lead pleasant lives. The 18th head of the Tokugawa Shogunal Household will discuss in English from many angles the social systems and spirit that supported 260 years of national peace in Japan. Not to be missed. Guests are welcome!
