Ambassador's Lecture Series No. 13

Sri Lanka: Present Day and Culture

Lecture by H.E. Mr Ranjith Uyangoda,
Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Japan


For The first Ambassador's Lecture of 2008 will be given by the Sri Lankan Ambassador, Mr. Ranjith Uyangoda.

Floating in the Indian Ocean, the beautiful Island of Sri Lanka is known for its heritage of Buddhist relics and tea cultivation yet troubled by ethnic conflict.

Ambassador Uyangoda has a deep knowledge of classical Sri Lankan music. He will talk about the present state of affairs in Sri Lanka and also the country's links to Japan as well as the nation's culture.

Please be sure to come along. (Lecture will be in English.)

Profile: H.E. Mr Ranjith Uyangoda

Born 1957. Graduate of University of Ceylon, master's degree from University of Colombo. Diploma from New York University in International Relations. Entered Sri Lanka Overseas Service (SLOS) in 1985. Served in Malaysia, India, America (New York), Canada, etc. Frequent Member of Sri Lankan Delegation to the UN General Assembly. Appearances at many international conferences on problems of human rights, etc. Ambassador to Japan since July, 2005.
