Visit to the Nezu Museum
|
To celebrate the approaching end of winter and coming of spring, why not immerse yourself in the culture of the Dolls' Festival (Hina-Matsuri), a traditional event unique to Japan? We will visit the Nezu Museum for a special exhibition of Hina dolls. Around 270 items from the collection of the venerable Toraya Confectionery collection of Hina dolls and their accoutrements will be on display. Along with empresses in splendid crowns and gorgeous classical costumes, exquisite miniature models of their furnishings and equipment will be shown. Our special guide (in English) will be Ms. Hiroko Nishida of Nezu Museum. |

NEZU Museum
Nezu Museum: created by industrialist and Tobu Railway president Kaichiro Nezu Sr. (1860-1940) to preserve and exhibit his collection of Japanese and Asian antique works of art. Established as a foundation in 1941 with 4,643 items, the museum numbers 7,414 pieces of art as of the end of March, 2011, including seven National Treasures, 87 Important Cultural Properties, and 94 Art Treasures. A devotee of 'chanoyu' (the tea ceremony), the founder hoped that his art objects could be appreciated while enjoying the tea ceremony, an inspiration which breathes life into the whole collection
