English Club

English Club met on November 17(Tuesday) at its usual venue, Marunouchi Café. The guest speaker was Mr. Hans Brinckmann, speaking on the theme of gThe certainties of Showa as seen from uncertain Heiseih. Currently a writer by profession, Brinckmann-san is also a photographer, among other things. He came to Japan for the first time in 1950, taking up his first position at a Dutch bankcin Marunouchi! He still remembers the beautiful red brick buildings then here, one of which has recently been recreated. While showing many of his own very special photographs, he also spoke of his personal experiences, including his Japanese-style omiai marriage. He then gave his thoughts on how the Showa Era had morphed into the Heisei Era and what to make of present-day Japan, for a most enjoyable presentation. English Club this year has enjoyed large audiences for each meeting in its present venue at the Marunouchi Café. Thank you, everyone, for coming. And thank you all of our speakers!
