Evening Gala, A Wonderful Night!
The ESUJ May Evening Gala took place at the Meiji Kinenkan
on Tuesday evening May 22. 140 people gathered in the Kinkei
Lounge, a spot which enjoys 118 years of history and is full
of classical atmosphere.
Following introductory remarks by ESUJ Chairman Hanabusa and
a toast proposed by Russell Willis, president of Eigotown,
soprano Terashima Yusako gave a wonderful vocal performance.
Her rendition of her father Terashima Naohiko's well-known
composition "The Sugarcane Field", with its reminiscences
about Okinawa and prayers for peace, resounded deeply and
warmly in the hearts of all those present. Everyone entered
into the happy, warm mood, and conversation flowed long into
the evening while guests gazed at the beautiful Japanese garden,
lit up and looking particularly beautiful and green following
the rain, or enjoyed the delicious drinks.
The atmosphere was delightfully international, with those
present including Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation scholars
from the UK, and foreign students from around ten countries.
Check out our new home page feature "Album"
to see who was there.
